{"id":2994,"date":"2014-05-09T10:18:36","date_gmt":"2014-05-09T14:18:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/?p=2994"},"modified":"2014-05-09T10:18:36","modified_gmt":"2014-05-09T14:18:36","slug":"aunt-grace-quilt-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/?p=2994","title":{"rendered":"Aunt Grace Quilt Completed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My first quilt finish of 2014! \u00a0This was one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/a-quick-vintage-style-quilt\/\">UFO quilts<\/a> I finished over the Christmas break. \u00a0The quilt pattern is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fonsandporter.com\/content_downloads\/Aunt_Gracies_Garden_RS.pdf\">Aunt Grace&#8217;s Garden<\/a> from Fons and Porter. \u00a0Their version had a wide, appliqued border but I didn&#8217;t want to make a double sized quilt, so I left off the border and went sashing free.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2979\" alt=\"auntgracequilted (7)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-7.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-7.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-7-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Alison and I both wanted to play up its old time vibe, so all of the motifs are very traditional. \u00a0Batting is Warm and Natural White Cotton and the thread is 50wt white. \u00a0She marked a simple stencil in the centre of the HST blocks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2977\" alt=\"auntgracequilted (4)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-4.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-4.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the alternating blocks, she did curving triangles and quatrefoils that really emphasize the optical illusion of circles and curves.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2975\" alt=\"auntgracequilted (2)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-2-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a close up of the quatrefoil. \u00a0It&#8217;s cute and light, and really fits with the overall feel of this quilt.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2976\" alt=\"auntgracequilted (3)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-3.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-3-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was lucky with this backing. \u00a0It&#8217;s a small scale OOP vintage floral print that I got for a steal from the remainders bin at Lens Mill. \u00a0It was a tight fit. \u00a0There wasn&#8217;t much left over after trimming, but it suits the quilt top to a tee.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2974\" alt=\"auntgracequilted (1)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/auntgracequilted-1-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The binding was also very successful. \u00a0It was stash, intended for a Easter themed dress that I never got around to making, and so I got the double satisfaction of destashing and finishing a UFO &#8211; a two for one!
