and then &#8216;copy&#8217; to create a mirror image of the row. \u00a0The new row will be directly on top of the original row and highlighted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">10. \u00a0Hold down the Alt key and tap the down arrow. \u00a0The duplicated cables will move to the next gathering row. \u00a0Continue moving the reflected cables until they are on row 9. \u00a0Deselect the cables (Ctrl+Shift+A).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-10.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">11. \u00a0From the symbols window, select &#8220;Full Space Wave&#8221;. <em>Tip: \u00a0All of the smocking symbols are labelled. \u00a0To see their title, simply hold the cursor over the symbol and its title will appear. <\/em>Drag the Full Space Wave onto the artboard, placing it between rows 2 and 3, directly below the row of cable stitches.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-11.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">12. \u00a0Switch from Preview mode to Outline mode (Ctrl+Y).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-12.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">13. \u00a0Zoom in (Hotkey: Z) to 1200%. \u00a0Using the selection tool (Hotkey: V), align the full space wave with the gathering rows and pleats. \u00a0When it is aligned, zoom out by making the artboard fit the window (Ctrl+0). \u00a0Return to Preview mode (Ctrl+Y).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">14. \u00a0Change the keyboard increment (Ctrl+K) to 8mm.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-14.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">15. \u00a0Making sure the symbol is still highlighted, duplicate the full space trellis across the width of the plate by holding down the Alt key and tapping the right or left arrow keys.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-15.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>At this point, the stitches will likely not align with the edges of the plate. \u00a0Don&#8217;t worry. \u00a0We will clean up the stragglers at the end of the design process, once everything is finalized. \u00a0For now, ignore any stitches that extend past the pleats.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">16. \u00a0Select the row of trellis stitches with the selection tool (Hotkey: V).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-345 aligncenter\" title=\"geometric smocking plate tutorial\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clairemeldrum.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/tutorial3-16.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">17. \u00a0Copy the stitches by right clicking&gt;transform&gt;reflect. \u00a0 Select &#8216;horizontal&#8217;
